Emergence
Toklo’s destiny revealed
Toklo stood where
the ice and snow met the water’s edge the same way he had stood in this spot
before. Except that now he was wet, soaked and sodden not just physically but
deep into his Spirit. How long ago he had last stood here Toklo could not say.
Time passed differently down beneath the waves.
Toklo felt
the cold but not how he did in his former life. Back then it was an elemental
thing that made the simple task of existing difficult. The Inuit had learned
long ago through eons of pervasive and debilitating cold how to thrive in the
frigid barren lands of their ancestors.
But now… The
sub-freezing temperature was like an energy. The cold enveloped and invigorated
him. He sensed, more than felt the sea water that blanketed him seep into his
clothes and skin and bones. Toklo felt a hardiness, a toughness he had never
known before.
Toklo looked
out across the snow-covered tundra where his village had once been. The people
and whale hide huts were gone. His once friends and neighbors had undoubtedly
moved on to better hunting grounds. Toklo did not feel any sadness though. He
knew they were doing well. Sedna had seen to that as a reward for his
servitude.
That was
done now. His Mistress Sedna released him from his service. “It is your time to
leave me now, dear Toklo.” She said. “You have another task, another destiny to
fulfill.”
“But who will
care for you my Mistress?” Toklo asked, “Who will brush your hair if not me?”
Sedna smiled
at Toklo as she stroked his cheek, “Another will come. You must go and find the
others Toklo. Those who also have served me and who will serve me.”
The smile
was suddenly gone and the Mistress of the Sea said gravely, “There is great
unrest in the world. The Eternal Balance is upset and even such as I cannot
change that. It is up to you and all the Children to maintain the balance for
that is the way of the one.”
Sedna
pointed toward the surface and Toklo felt himself start to rise through the
dark waters toward light.
“You must
walk the snow lands Toklo until you find those who will serve. Unrest and war
is coming Toklo. The people of the Blue Ice must follow The One’s path…”
Toklo, for
the first time in his life felt as if he were one with the land and sea, the
animals seen and hidden and everything around him. But even so, as he took his
first step toward his destiny he felt the tiniest bit of trepidation. Then he
took another step, and another, and…
To
