Pre-game steps and Deployment
The Way Roll; Aztecs Everliving, Inuit Everchanging
Scenario; Treasure from the Crux (Table size modified for a
small game)
Devotions and Magic; Aztecs – Control Enemy Territory. Magic
– Armor of the Gods and Curse of Servitude. Inuit – Through Enemy Lines.
Turn 1
Aztecs had the order die advantage and moved first. Both
Forces used Movement Blessings to ensure 1st turn Capture/Claims.
The Aztec High Priest successfully cast Armor of the Gods which saved the Marauders any losses from a barrage of 5 hits
from the Inuit Arvik. Aztec Eagle Warriors fired on an Arvik unit killing one
and inflicting a Brave Status Marker. The Nanuq Guardians moved towards the
Marauders in anticipation of a 2nd turn charge while the Tuvaak
Master made a flanking run to intercept a unit of Bound Dead who had just
claimed a Marker. The Aztec High Priest stayed at a safe distance behind the
Marauders but was careful not to run out of real estate….
Turn 2
Dice advantage rolls just slightly to Aztecs. Both sides
have units on the verge of escaping with the precious gems. In a brilliant move,
the Inuit Arviik make a desperate throw of Harpoons at the Marauders who
control a Gem Objective. The Marauders take a casualty and are drawn in close
enough for the Guardians to charge. Before that can happen though, the High
Priest is able to summon back the twice killed Bound Marauder. The charge goes
off and some spectacular die rolling ensues leaving the combat a draw. However,
the Eagle Warriors manage to pick off a Guardian with well-focused bow shots.
At either flank we see a unit of Bound Dead and the Inuit Tuvaak Master moving
silently closer to their respective enemy deployment zones. Plans are in the offing…
Turn 3
Dice advantage to the Inuit. On the first 2 activations both
the Inuit and the Aztec score Gem Objective points. The Tuvaak Master charged
the Aztec High Priest who could not get away and they remain locked in combat.
A Bound Dead unit made it across the board but is being harassed by Inuit
Archers. Another unit of Arvik used a Blessing to auto-pass a Brave test to
charge the Marauders locked in combat with the Guardians. By turns end the
Arvik were reduced to a single man and Fleeing with the Guardian also down to a
single beast with 6 pins. However, the Marauders are being kept from completing
their Objective. 1VP to1.
Turn 4
Small Dice advantage to Inuit until the people of the ice
use a Blessing to increase their advantage and grab the first two activations.
But in a turn of stunning disappointment the Tuvaak Master (after shedding his
one Brave Status Marker) fails to do any harm to the High Priest and his single
bodyguard. Adding insult to injury his archers fail to inflict any damage on
the unit of Bound Dead that shamble deep within Inuit territory. Then came the
Aztec response; The Marauders still at full strength due to an earlier Blessing
cut down the remaining Guardian in quick order using their consolidation to
move back towards their deployment while in possession of the last remaining
gem. Finally, the last of the Fleeing unit of Arvik leaves the battlefield.
After another round of combat the 2 Generals remain locked in combat. The Dice count is Aztec’s 4 to Inuit’s 2 with
the battle's outcome still undecided..
Turn 5
Dice advantage to Aztecs at 4 vs 2 with one remaining die
evaporating with the first action of the Aztecs. The Marauders charged into the
ongoing combat laying waste to the valiant Tuvaak Master who was so overwhelmed
that his attempt to take at least one enemy with him failed. Inuit do not go
down easy and before he drew his last cold breath the Inuit Master attacked
with all he had left taking the remaining bodyguard from the High Priest. In
their ongoing attempt to thwart the secretive plans of the Bound Dead unit
shambling around their entry point the Arvik archers fire upon and slay all but
the Undying Champion.
Turn 6 Epilogue; Little left but to end this battle
for Balance. The Marauders move off the battlefield to claim their precious Gem
and a VP. The Inuit archers marched to get close enough to deny the Aztecs a
further VP as they figured rightly that the plan was to own territory. They
were successful but to no real avail. The Inuit, so embroiled in combat failed
to execute their Devotion as well.
Victory; AZTECS with 3 VP to 1.
